Today's Main Media Outlets la "1984"

Many, accurately in my opinion, have characterized today's main media sources as but an arm of the progressive element within our political system.

FOX News was the only holdout. But, since the beginnings of the 2016 presidential campaign, it too has been seen to join forces with the rest.

Up front, let me be clear. My obvious bias is against the politically progressive element in our society - NOT the liberal; There Is A Large Difference! The media, daily, attempts to equate there 2 ideologies - and the American public, in general, seems fine with such a mischaracterization.

The news media today is a living, breathing organism in direct support of Mark Twain's famous If you don't read the newspaper, you're uninformed. If you read the newspaper, you're mis-informed. In Orwell's book "1984" there were 4 "Ministires" serving the fictional nation of "Oceania"; each "ministry" had the actual function of being the direct opposite of the inference of their names: "The Ministry of Truth", "The Ministry of Love", "The Ministry of Peace", and "The Ministry of Plenty".

Harking back to Orwell's book, '1984", today's media, in effect, has become a well oiled Oceania's "Ministry of Truth"; in practice, today's media is an unofficial arm of the federal government - or at least the progressive element of it.

The media of today aims its messages and is geared toward pushing the progressive ideology to us all. Where the truth doesn't support this ideology, the media changes the facts to fit their narrative.

Further, the media pushes accusations that have no merit in fact. Thus, the accused must spend valuable time and energy defending an untruth.

Parallels may also be seen in "1984" with the operations of our government. Oceania's "Ministry of Truth" as well as its "Ministry of Love", "Ministry of Peace", and "Ministry of Plenty" seem to been running rampant if one looks closely enough.

From the view of "30,000 feet" let's take a look at these "1984" ministries and see if we can see the parallels to today.

Ministry of Truth

I introduced this one above. This LINK offers but a mere 50 examples of facts being distorted by the media. Today's media is following Vladimir Lenin's observation, it appears: "A lie told often enough becomes the truth."

As an aside: Apparently, I am not the only one seeing parallels between "1984" and today. Matthew Wadler has offered some comments along this line relative to "1984's" Newspeak.

Take a look at the news bombarding us today. "The Russians hacked the 2016 election", "Trump is giving national secrets to the Russians", "Trump's executive orders are unconstitutional and violate US law", and "Trump is trying to obstruct justice" are examples. In fact, presently (mid/late May 2017) Trump is the subject of not one investigation by anyone - independent of what media sources may offer.

Forget that none of the above have any factual basis. These types of stories are what we are fed by the media; and, to our detriment, many in the US just "believe what they are fed".

Briefly, let's look at the "Russian hacking" issue.

First, as of today there is mounting evidence that Russia was directly or indirectly responsible for attempting to meddle in our election. Russia wasn't successful, of course. The single biggest aspect of this meddling seems to be the capture and release of emails from the DNC.

Still, no evidence exists that there was any collusion between Russia and Trump, et. al.

What the media gives precious little coverage to is that the emails released offered the American people actual TRUTH - not falsehoods. No one would argue that hacking isn't a crime. But, how is it damaging to our election process to have actual facts revealed? And, no one has accused Russia of actually "hacking" our vote collection and counting.

UPDATES on the Hacking Story:

There are several "theories" swirling around.

1. Very recent reports are surfacing that, in fact, it was NOT the Russians who leaked the DNC emails. It was from within the DNC. According to one report, Seth Rich, recently mysteriously murdered (wonder by whom?) former Democratic National Committee staffer, was the one who facilitated the Clinton email leak to wikileaks. Is this an accurate report or more "fake news"? Who knows as yet. However, Newt Gingrich seems to feel the story is credible. And, from a source as reliable as Newsweek, there's THIS.

2. Evidence exists that the Russian meddling (directly or, as noted above, with help from the DNC) in our election was known by President Obama and his administration while he was still in office but did nothing to curtail the "hacking".

Concern has been expressed as to why Obama did nothing. Possible theories on this include:

a) Obama did not have the courage to do what was necessary to properly confront Russia, i.e., Putin.

and

b) Obama was directed, either externally or via his own beliefs, that the meddling was actually aimed aganst Trump and not Hillary Clinton and, therefore, good for the Democrat Party.

-----------------------

The above slanders & libels, it seems, are coming from disgruntled employees of our government who are holdovers from a prior administration. These people are feeding (a.k.a. leaking) such to the all too willing and complicit media.

The truly sad thing is that the majority of the American people do not have the time nor the inclination to research what they hear or see. They, apparently, would rather just accept the lies they are fed.

It's actually more than just not reporting the truth. The media, or some parts of it anyway, fail to alert the public, or at least delays such alerts, when something of importance happens that does not fit their narrative. Take for example the Manchester bombing.

Ministry of Love

Within this ministry lies brainwashing combined with actions that enforce repression in the name of security and through instilling fear in the population.

We can see this in action if we only look. Remember Ben Franklin's famous "Those who would give up liberty for safety deserve neither." TSA anyone?

The aim here is to divide the American people. Progressives know all too well the old adage: "Divide and Rule". It is their mantra. Its success is to break up larger entities of power into pieces that individually have less power than the one implementing the strategy - i.e., the progressives.

Common Core, the new educational model, tends to teach our children math in a way their overworked parents have difficulty defending against, teaches a revisionist history filled with "government is the only answer" and "America is, at its core, not a good place", and the like.

The use of Political Correctness divides people into separate camps and strives to curtail "freedom of speech".

The government traps all of our phone calls, emails, and social media postings (read up on the NSA, et. al.). If one remembers "1984", think of the Thought Police. And, this goes to speech as well. Consider the number of conservative politicians denied the right to speak soley due to their thoughts and ideas being different than the information fed to the progressive masses.

Further, just read or see the stories in today's news about our centers for higher learning providing separate graduation ceremonies for African-Americans, universities offering safe spaces AND dorms for those who feel threatened by the mere concept of hearing ideas different than their own, addressing others with ugly (and incorrect) adjectives merely because their ideas are different, and many more such. If this doesn't reek of trying to divide us, I'm not certain what would be worse.

The theory of human-caused global warming is a prime example of what Michael Crichton offered in his 2004 book "State of Fear". It has been put forth to cause fear and a reliance on government as our only salvation.

Remember, to become a fact first there is a theory backed up with hard evidence; next is a demonstration of one's premise; assuming the premise holds through experimentation, it must be repeatable. With the theory of human-caused global warming, only an original premise exists. Billions of dollars have been spent trying to "prove" the premise. So far no proof exists - only anecdotes.

Ministry of Peace

The main goal of this ministry is to ensure that we are in a state of perpetual war; war primarily with "east asia" and "eurasia" so as to assure that we never win. This perpetual war syndrome uses up precious resources and keeps the populace in hardship continually. Consider: How long have we been involved in the Middle East without winning? Actually, since WWII how many wars HAVE we won?

Ministry of Plenty

This represents Oceania's supply chain of goods. Keep goods relatively scarce! To continue on the goal of division, this is the central theme of Oceania's idea: a poor, less educated people is easier to rule than a wealthy, well-informed one.

The ministry uses tortured statistics to claim whatever it wants the people to know. These statistics were fed to the people as the government saw fit.

As for a simple example today, the unemployment statistics we see almost daily do NOT include some 95 million of our people who are NOT in the workforce. Or, as the old saying goes, "Figures lie and liars figure!"

And the "Ministry of Truth" keeps rolling it out!

A Caution: Do we want to become "Winston Smith"? Hopefully not!

Do not let yourself be one about whom Dietrich Bonhoeffer spoke:

Editorial note:

I have an exceeding amount of facts to back up everything read above - my opinions on those things, are, of course, my own.

I would strongly recommend we all read/re-read Orwell's "1984" as well as Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged". Read these not with current political biases, but with a look at the actual events of today. The unfortunate parallels are compelling.

As just a sample quote from Rand's "Atlas Shrugged":"We are fast approaching the stage of the ultimate inversion: the stage where the government is free to do anything it pleases, while the citizens may act only by permission...

While you're at it, review Saul Alinsky's "Rules For Radicals" with the same recommendation as just above.

The current operations of the politically progressive seem to fit like a glove.

Additional readings on the pitfalls of the progressive movement - again, NOT Liberalism - should include This, This, This, This, and, perhaps the most telling re: today's news, This.

Partial sources for the above are "wikipedia", The National Review, and my own research spanning & involving many, many sources.
