Forward Or Backward

Aside from the fact that this is a clever little "button", it doesn't require much to get me thinking.

"Forward" to what? "Backward" to what?

Let's see.

Do I want to go backward to when our country wasn't $20 TRILLION in debt? Yep!

Do I want to go backward to the time when there weren't 94 million people NOT in the workforce; Note: that's 14 million more than 8 years ago? Yep!

Do I want go to backward to the point that all of us, politicians AND "regular people", were treated equally under the law? Yep!

Do I want to go backward to a time before political correctness when people could actually express their opinions without someone needing a "safe place"? Yep!

Do I want to go backward to a time when the media merely reported the news, not try and make it? And, to a time when the media clearly offered commentary separate from "hard news"? Yep!

Do I want to go backward to the time when people obtained employment based on their ability and good work ethic and NOT because of some government rule? Yep!

Do I want to go backward to the simple concept of having different political opinions did NOT mean the end of a friendship? Yep!

Do I want to go backward to when America was respected throughout the world? Yep!

Do I want to go backward to a time when the slightest instance of terrorism was stamped out before it could blossom? Yep!

Do I want to go backward to when our police were safe in the performance of their jobs - AND were respected for keeping the "bad guys" away? Yep!

Do I want to go backward to the time Dr. Martin Luther King's statement was becoming a reality, i.e., '...that one day we will live in a nation where people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.'? Yep!

Do I want to go backward to once again see political issues being decided on the merits of someone's ideas with those ideas not being discredited based on the political party to which they belong OR due to the color of someone's skin OR their gender? Yep!

Do I want to go backward to a point that I honestly believed my children and grandchildren had the chance of a life better than mine? OH, you betcha!

OK. That's the "backward" part.

How about the "forward" part?

I find it rather curious when some politician offers us "Forward" as part of his/her platform. "Forward" is never quite defined with any specificity - or, the question "Forward to what?" is never answered.

And, yes, our current president used the slogan "Forward" in his campaign.

I guess the real reason "Forward" makes me a little uneasy is that here are some other political campaigns having used "Forward" as part of their slogans:

No, before I move the shift lever on my "voting car" to D for "forward" (as the button describes), I absolutely need to know the answer to:

"Forward To What?"

So far, no answer consistent with what made America great has been provided.
