The DAAP (Dumb As A Post) Award - Or, to increase the overall IQ of our nation, abortion may not be all that bad a thing to consider after all!

The first DAAP Award goes to:

Nancy Pelosi for two outstanding positions:

1. Nancy Pelosi on the relationship between the debt limit and spending: I dont think those two things should be related.

(COMMENT: The debt limit, if not exceeded, prohibits the government from continuing to spend more than the revenue it takes in. Of course they are related - DIRECTLY RELATED, they are!)

2. Nancy Pelosi on having Congress approve raising the debt ceiling" If I were president, I would use the 14th Amendment, which says that the debt of the United States will always be paid. Note: In context, she means (here) that she would bypass Congress and just "raise" the debt ceiling using the 14th Amendment as the justification..

(COMMENT: Here is Section IV of the 14th Amendment:

"Section 4. The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned. But neither the United States nor any State shall assume or pay any debt or obligation incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or any claim for the loss or emancipation of any slave; but all such debts, obligations and claims shall be held illegal and void."

Basically, it says that the government must pay its debts; it says nothing about authorizing the incurrence of MORE debt to fund MORE spending.)

The Second DAAP Award goes to:

Hank Johnson, Congressman from South Carolina

Ole Hank uttered this (in)famous quote on the subject of stationing more military personnel on Guam: "My fear is that, a, the whole island will become so overly populated that it will tip over."
